Wilson Savage Duo Tennis String

In the video below, I describe another new string from Wilson for 2012… Wilson Savage Duo. Savage Duo is a “hybrid set” consisting of Luxilon Savage and Wilson NXT Control. Check it out…

Thanks for checking in.

I didnt know that wilson had this duo. And ihave been string black savage/nxt, black savage/sensation (our test rackets string duo) and black savage/tecnifibre multifeel for 1 year already.

Wilson Savage Duo is very new – just released in January 2012. It seems like you were already creating similar hybrids for yourself. 🙂

    Take care.

Actually i am working at a Tennis-shop of a very big Tennis-online company. Only at shop we string more than 150 rackets per week. I by my self string this duos more than 20 times in a week. so it could be that Wilson was inspired this duo from us :)))) Anyways. its good that i found this inspired-tennis its very .. hmmm … instructional!.. i will be checking this website more often :))

Hey Ozan – thanks for the comment. Perhaps you did inspire Wilson to create Savage Duo! 🙂 It sounds like you really crank out the string jobs every week. Happy stringing!

Hey David really nice video simple and informative, I love your blog

I have been playing tennis for 3 years, string of choice Luxilon Big Bang Alu Power Rough, full bed strung between 50-55 lbs depending upon the weather, I use a Wilson BLX six.one tour, so kind of more of a baseline player with a strong serve, I wanted some help regarding hybrids as I wish to try a hybrid combinations (although if you are are correct I should return to Power rough) it’s the Wilson Savage Duo, I wish to use the Wilson NXT control in the mains and Savage in the crosses (opposite to what you advised) can you give some tips regarding the setup and vice versa, also recommendcertain tension adjustments, please.

Hey Sameed – thanks for the comment and thanks for the kind words about my videos and blog – much appreciated.

Since you’re already using Alu Power Rough, I’ll make the assumption that you already possess topspin-producing groundstrokes with fast racquet head speed. If this is not accurate, let me know – and stay away from co-poly, at least in a full bed.

Hybrids… As you know, a hybrid creates a unique string bed that is the combination of two, often very different, strings. The general consensus is that the overall string bed in a hybrid takes on more of the characteristics of the mains than the crosses. Therefore, if you use co-poly mains, for example, and multi crosses, the overall bed will end up being a nice combination of both – but will play a little more like a full bed of co-poly as opposed to a full bed of multi.

Using co-poly mains and multi crosses… The co-poly mains (Savage) will give you spin (assuming your strokes already produce spin) and control. The multi crosses (NXT Control) will add a little power and soften the overall bed for more touch/feel.

Using multi mains and co-poly crosses… The multi mains will give you power and touch/feel. The co-poly crosses will help temper some of the power and give you some additional spin.

If you have hit with heavy topspin and play mainly a baseline game, then you’ll probably like a co-poly/multi hybrid better than the other way around. If you have flatter strokes and come to net a decent amount, you’ll probably like a multi/co-poly hybrid better. It just depends on what you’re wanting from your string bed – and as always, you’ll probably have to experiment a little bit to find the perfect setup and tension for your game.

Tension… If you currently play with Alu at 50-55, then I suggest keeping Savage in the same range – assuming you like that range. Then… I suggest trying the NXT Control about 2 to 4 pounds higher. I don’t ever like having more than a 4 pound differential between mains and crosses. I am not a physicist by any means, but I just feel that two large of a tension differential can put stress on the frame and possibly warp it (or worse… break it).

I haven’t played with Savage. I pretty much only use a full bed of Alu Power Rough. I did, however, play with Adrenaline – which uses the same technology as Savage. I didn’t like it as much as Alu Power Rough – just not as solid of a feel and not as much bite.

    Hope this helps.

    Take care.
