New String: Genesis Typhoon

Genesis Typhoon Tennis StringRecently, I was fortunate to demo a new string from Genesis called Typhoon.

Let me first say that I have been using Alu Power Rough almost exclusively for the past couple of years, and I absolutely love it. I cannot find anything that comes close to it in terms of playability for me.

Secondly, let me say that I have no affiliation with Genesis whatsoever – other than they sought me out somehow – perhaps from this blog and my posts on the Talk Tennis forum – to play-test their new string.

Typhoon looks very much like Alu Power Rough – same gray color with a textured look. It also feels very much like it in the hands – stiff but with a solid feel. All too often, some polys (other than Lux) have a cheap, plastic-y feel to them – not the case with Typhoon.

When I played with it, I loved it. It is, without a doubt, the closest string to Alu Power Rough I’ve ever tried. It is not quite to Alu’s lofty level, but it is close.

It had good power and great bite. I was able to get a tons of spin/action on my groundies with it – just like Alu.

Again, while it is not quite at Alu’s level, it is close enough that I am seriously considering switching to Typhoon as my string of choice. We’ll see…

Just last week, Genesis sent me a blue version of Typhoon to test. I have been so busy stringing client’s racquets that I haven’t had a chance to string it up and try it yet. I will do so soon. It is a really cool looking color of blue – almost a royal blue with a little bit of a shine to it.

If you currently use Alu Power Rough, I encourage you to give Typhoon a try. You may not switch away, but I think you’ll agree that it is one of the closest playing strings to Alu Power Rough out there.

Thanks for checking in.
