Video: The History of Luxilon Tennis Strings

Luxilon is, without a doubt, the most popular tennis string on the Pro Tour – especially on the men’s side, and it’s popularity is a direct result of it’s outstanding playability.  Case in point…  The folks at Luxilon may give free string to some of the higly ranked pros, but they do not pay any of the pros to use their string.  Yet, most pro players still use Luxilon.  To me, this speaks volume about the playability of Luxilon.

While I am nowhere near the playing level of a touring pro, Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power Rough is my string of choice.  Aside from playtests I conduct, I have been using Alu Power Rough exclusively for over a year, and I absolutely love it.  The spin/action I get on the ball with it is incredible.  Anyway…

Here is an interesting video called “The History of Luxilon” featuring Brad Gilbert (former top player and former coach of Andre Agassi), Roman Prokes (Owner of RPNY Tennis and Head Stringer of the Wilson Stringing Team), and Nico Van Malderen (President of Luxilon).  Note – The way Luxilon’s site is structured, I cannot provide a direct link to the video.  The link above will take you to the home page – from there, please navigate to the “Video” link.

Pay special attention to the stringing machines Roman and his Wilson Stringing Team are using.  They are the exact same machines as my SAM Pro-Master (except for the paint job).  I’m fortunate to have the same type of machine that was used by the Wilson Stringing Team at some of the top professional tennis tournaments throughout the world – including the 2006 and 2007 U.S. Open.  (I believe this video footage of Roman and Team was taken at the Sony Ericcson Masters Event in Miami.)

Thanks for checking in. – DH
